On the early morning of Friday, April 27, 2012, a twenty-three year old woman and a twenty-nine year old man were struck by a hit-and-run motorist as they were crossing the street from Beale on Broadway and heading to the Broadway Oyster Bar in downtown Saint Louis, Missouri. Tragically, Amber Wood, a graduate of Granite City High School, was thrown by the vehicle and fatally injured. Additionally, the male victim suffered severe injuries to his lower body as a result of this hit-and-run collision on South Broadway.
As a Missouri and Illinois lawyer for car accident victims, hit-and-run collisions cause victims and their families incredible loss while leaving them feeling helpless. Therefore, when pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcycle and/or automobile drivers fall victim to a hit-and-run collision, they should not face these horrible situations alone. Both Missouri and Illinois require drivers to carry uninsured motorist coverage for these situations, and an experienced lawyer is necessary to assist with these claims as there are often strict policy guidelines which must be followed. In addition to claim assistance, an experienced car accident lawyer, through an investigation, can also assist in identifying and locating the hit-and-run driver.
Fortunately, and after locating the vehicle in a Madison County scrapyard, the Saint Louis police announced yesterday they have a suspect in custody. Through diligent investigatory work, an ethical commitment to justice, and remembering the lives we have sadly lost, we can all strive to hold the proper individuals and entities responsible while making our communities as safe as possible.
