At least 5 people were killed in 3 separate car crashes in the overnight hours in St. Louis between January 27th and January 28th, 2015. The crashes came in a 4 ½ hour time span. Two of the victims died when their vehicle caught fire after hitting an overpass downtown. Two more victims were pedestrians on a sidewalk in Wellston. They were struck and killed by a car that swerved to avoid another car. The 5th person killed was traveling on Interstate 55 when she rear-ended a semi that had blown a tire.
A 6th person was critically injured when he hit an oncoming fuel tanker on McKinley Bridge after losing control of his car.
Semi Accident Kills Woman from Imperial, MO
Around 10:30pm Tuesday night a woman from Imperial, MO was killed when her car ran into the back of a semi on Interstate 55 northbound near Butler Hill Road. Police have identified the woman as 32-year-old Erin L. Nabe-Jenkins.
The Missouri Highway Patrol says that the semi had blown 2 rear tires and was trying to pull over to the shoulder. Ms. Nabe-Jenkins wasn’t paying attention, according to police, and the front of her Dodge Avenger crashed into the back of the semi. Ms. Nabe-Jenkins was pronounced dead at 11:08pm Tuesday night.
The driver of the semi, a 46-year-old male from Ozark, Alabama, was not hurt.
Pedestrians Killed in Wellston, MO
A man and a woman walking down the street in Wellston, MO were hit and killed around 11:30pm Tuesday night. This accident took place near the intersection of Keinlen and Evanston Avenues.
According to St. Louis County Police Sgt. Brian Schellman, a 19-year-old-woman was driving southbound on Kienlen Ave. when she swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle. She veered into the northbound lanes, ran off the road, and struck a curb. Her car went on the sidewalk and hit two pedestrians. Sgt. Schellman did not release the names of the 2 people killed and did not know how old they were. The 19-year-old driver was not arrested Tuesday night.
Overpass Accident Near Cass Avenue Claims 2 Lives
Two people were killed in St. Louis when their car hit an overpass near Cass Avenue just before 3:00am Wednesday morning. The car overturned and caught fire. This accident happened on Interstate 44, close to where the interstate becomes I-70 downtown. No information has been released by the police about the two victims.
Man Critically Injured in McKinley Bridge Accident
Venice Police are investigating a serious wreck that closed the McKinley Bridge for several hours early Wednesday morning. A man in his 30’s was injured critically around 2am. He was traveling east along McKinley Bridge when he hit a guardrail and swerved into the westbound lane. He collided with an oncoming fuel truck.
A Venice Police detective stated that the man was taken by helicopter to St. Louis University Hospital. He is listed in critical condition. McKinley Bridge was closed until around 7am while crews cleared the wreckage and the police conducted their investigation.
