CAR ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY WINTEROn Saturday February 28th, Columbia officials stated that there were over 50 automobile accidents reported from 2:00pm and 5:50pm.  Luckily, there were no major injuries.

In Jefferson County, a snow plow driver was in an accident with a car that had slid down an icy hill.  There were no injuries in this accident.

Rolla, MO Accident Involving Greyhound Bus

On Saturday February 28th, several people were injured after a Greyhound bus caused an accident resulting in a 30-car pile-up on I-44.

Police say the bus was driving on I-44 hear Rolla, MO when it hit the rear of a semi.  There were 55 people on the bus at that time.  Of those on board, 11 people suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.  The other 44 passengers took shelter at First Assembly of God Church or checked into a hotel.

Other accidents happened the same day on I-44 near mile marker 184.  One accident involved a semi carrying flammable liquid. Hazmat crews were dispatched but said the spill was only minor.

Two Fatalities in Lebanon, MO Car Crash.

On Sunday March 1st, two people died after a driver lost control of his vehicle in southern Missouri on a snow-covered highway.  The Missouri Highway Patrol stated that a car that was out of control skidded and slammed into a semi-truck that was stopped on Saturday because of a previous accident on I-44.

The driver, a 20-year-old man from Fort Leonard Wood, survived the crash with only minor injuries.  However, both of the passengers in the car were ejected and did not survive.  The Highway Patrol has identified the victims as Eduardo Contreras from Wichita, and Cesar Hernandez from Los Angeles.

MODOT had been working to clear the debris from another wreck on I-44 when a semi crashed into a Greyhound bus.  It took most of Sunday before MODOT was able to clear the debris and reopen the westbound lanes.

O’Fallon, MO Car Crash with Semi-Truck

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Kayla M. Nguyen was killed at 9:45am on Sunday, March 1st in a crash on eastbound I-70 near Bryan Road.  Police say Nguyen was driving eastbound on I-70 when her car skidded while trying to merge into the snow-covered lanes of I-70 near Bryan Road.

Her car veered off the left side of the road before it swerved in front of a semi being driven by Kayla L. Archer from Lee’s Summit, MO.  Archer was not hurt.

Quincy, IL Car Accident

Police say that there were 3 people injured in Quincy, IL on Sunday, March March 1st when the car they were riding in ended up in the ditch.

The Adams County Sheriff stated that the car was speeding Sunday morning when the driver of the car lost control, which caused it to end up in the ditch.  The driver and a passenger were taken to a local hospital for minor injuries; however, the third passenger suffered serious injuries.

Sheriff Deputies say that all three passengers had their seat belts on at the time of the accident.
